How to Choose the Right Meditation Cushion
For centuries, practitioners of meditation have used meditation cushions to make their experience more comfortable and rewarding. Meditation cushions can make an enormous difference to the accomplishment of your meditation session. Meditation pillows or cushions are really worth your consideration and contemplation if you want to enjoy a deeper more relaxed meditation session. However, there are many kinds of meditation pillows and cushions. So, its very important to know what to look for when choosing the right one.
Meditation cushions or Zafu’s as they are commonly referred are designed to help you experience a more comfortable and deeper meditation than normal as they give you better spinal alignment and support. The zafu meditation cushion provides better spinal alignment and proper height for a more comfortable and deeper meditation. In addition to zafu cushions, many people use zabutons. Zabutons are large cushions that go under the rectangular pillow.
Prior to choosing your meditation cushion, you need to be aware of where you are going to undertake your meditation sitting. For example, you will need a special style of meditation cushion for soft ground meditating and a different cushion for wooden floors or on tiles. If you do most of your meditating on a hard floor, then a thicker cushion is advised.
Many people tend to use and recommend wool as the ideal filling for a meditation cushion. Another popular alternative is buckwheat hull filling which is good for persons who prefer a more solid and firm meditation cushion. There are plenty of web sites where you can pick up sets of cushions, pillows, or meditation benches for your meditation practice. Meditation benches are a comfortable alternative to meditation cushions or pillows.
In essence, meditation cushions and pillows work to correct the effects of gravity upon the spine. This is very important since while meditating, the spine naturally weighs down the practitioner and causes discomfort after prolonged practice even for persons with strong lower back muscles. Meditation cushions and pillows are very important tools in anyone’s meditation practice.
